The Nationalist Faction was an informal grouping of nationalist politicians in the Emirate of Bukhara that was active from 1836 to 1920. The faction consisted of members of the aristocracy and high-ranking military figures, and it sought to prevent any liberal reforms from occurring in the emirate. The Nationalist Faction advocated the monarchy's complete control of the country, supporting absolutism in terms of trade policy, economic policy, and war policy, as well as supporting the traditional Uzbek/Islamic culture and its stances on non-Uzbeks and on non-Sunni Muslims. The faction supported aggressive expansion, and the Nationalist Faction, along with the Royal Faction of Bukhara, were the two favorite ruling parties of the Emirs.
