The National World War II Memorial is a national memorial in Washington DC commemorating the Americans who participated in the Allied war effort during World War II. It was dedicated on 29 April 2004, and it consists of 56 pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding a square and fountain. As of 2009, 4.4 million people visited the memorial each year.
