The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is the largest labor union of South Africa, with 338,000 members. Led by General Secretary Irvin Jim (who described NUMSA as a Marxist-Leninist group devoted to the creation of a "Socialist Republic of South Africa"), the union was expelled from the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) on 8 November 2014, and NUMSA fought for its readmission to COSATU, which was turning into a bureaucratic union.
