The National Union for Independence and Revolution (UNIR) was a nationalist political party in Chad, founded in 1984 by the Armed Forces of the North rebel group leader Hissene Habre. UNIR had the support of northern Muslims, the military, and civilians who opposed Libyan interference in Chadian affairs, and it had an elected 80-member Central Committee. In 1990, UNIR was outlawed by Idriss Deby after Habre's regime was overthrown in a coup d'etat, and the Patriotic Salvation Movement became the new ruling party.
