National Revolutionary Army

The National Revolutionary Army was the military arm of the Kuomintang party of the Republic of China, existing from 1925 to 1947. The army was trained by the Soviet Union due to the Kuomintang's alliance with Joseph Stalin, and the NRA crushed several Chinese warlords during the late 1920s and early 1930s, and the NRA also fought against Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War from 1937 to 1945. During the war against Japan, the NRA allied with the communist People's Liberation Army, but the two forces broke apart in 1945 when the Japanese surrendered and the Chinese Civil War resumed. In 1949, the NRA withdrew to Taiwan after the defeat of the KMT, and it became the Republic of China Army (ROCA). The army had 4,300,000 troops at its height.
