National Renewal is a liberal-conservative political party in Chile that was founded on 29 April 1987. The party, peopled by former National Party of Chile supporters, was founded to support an open election and a candidate other than Augusto Pinochet ahead of the 1988 plebiscite. The overwhelming majority of the party nevertheless supported Pinochet's candidacy in the 1988 election, and the party became one of the main parties of the Chilean center-right, alongside the more conservative Independent Democratic Union. From 2009 to 2013, National Renewal member Sebastian Pinera was President of Chile; the party won the 2017 presidential election, taking power away from the Socialist Party of Chile. In 2017, the party won 36/120 Chamber of Deputies seats and 8/38 Senate seats.
