The National Party, formerly known as the Blancos, is a liberal-conservative political party in Uruguay that was founded on 10 August 1836 by Manuel Oribe. The party was founded as the rival of the liberal Colorado Party, which overthrew it in the Uruguayan War of 1865; the Colorados ruled Uruguay until 1958. The National Party became a major opposition party, first to the Colorado Party, and then to the Broad Front of Uruguay during the 2000s.
