The National Party of Australia was a conservative political party in Australia that was founded on 20 January 1920. The party was founded in 1920 as the Australian Country Party, and it represented graziers, farmers, and rural voters. In 1982, the party adopted its current name, the "National Party", as a part of its strategy to expand into urban areas. The National Party formed an alliance with the Liberal Party of Australia, and its leader usually served as Deputy Prime Minister under a Liberal Party Prime Minister. In 2017, the party held 16/150 House of Representatives seats and 5/76 Senate seats.
