Nathaniel Bradley Baker (29 September 1818-11 September 1876) was the Democratic Governor of New Hampshire from 8 June 1854 to 7 June 1855, succeeding Noah Martin and preceding Ralph Metcalf.
Biography[]
Nathaniel Bradley Baker was born in Henniker, New Hampshire in 1818, and he co-owned the Democratic New Hampshire Patriot newspaper before serving as Merrimack County clerk, in the State House from 1850 to 1851, and as a Democratic presidential elector in 1852. He served as Governor from 1854 to 1855, and he moved to Clinton, Iowa and became a lawyer. Baker was elected to the State House in 1859 as a Democrat, but his anti-slavery views led him to join the Republican Party. He died in Des Moines in 1876.
