Narodnaya Volya, also known as People's Will, was a Russian socialist terrorist group that was led by young intellectuals and consisted of angry Russian peasants. The terrorists believed that terrorism would force the Russian Empire to grant concessions, although the group's actions would lead to intensified repression. The group existed from 1879 to 1884, forming after a split from the Land and Liberty organization, and the group was most famous for its 1881 assassination of Czar Aleksandr II of Russia in a bomb attack. Minister of the Interior Vyacheslav von Plehve would crush the group in the following years, ending its terrorist attacks on the czarist government and crushing the radicals.
