Nara Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan located in western Honshu, and the capital is the city of Nara. Nara was known as Yamato Province until 1871, and the prefecture was home to the ancient Japanese capitals of Fujiwara and Heijo. In 2011, Nara Prefecture had a population of 1,396,849 people.
