Naoyori Anegakoji
Naoyori Anegakoji 2

Naoyori Anegakoji (died 1546) was the daimyo of the Anegakoji clan of Hida Province. Living in Takayama Castle, he was an early enemy of the Takeda daimyo Shingen Takeda and was killed in battle with the Takeda clan at his castle in 1546.

Biography[]

Naoyori Anegakoji was born in Takayama Castle in Hida Province (now a part of Japan's Gifu Prefecture), and became the daimyo of the Anegakoji clan. Naoyori's clan was destitute and weak, and were a defensive family. The Anegakoji were among the clans of the Kanto Region of central Japan that were unaligned, and they watched as the major families in the region fought over lands. Because his family was defensive, they had no allies and lived in isolation and despair.

In 1546, the powerful Takeda clan of Shingen Takeda launched a campaign to take over central Japan from the other warlords and the Anegakoji's insufficient rule of Hida Province led to Shingen invading their lands. In 1546, Naoyori and his son Yoshiyori Anegakoji were killed by the Takeda in their castle of Takayama by Shingen's army. Hida Province became an important province of the Takeda, as it had superior wood resources. The Takeda prospered off of the wood trade in the region, and it no longer was a destitute region.
