Nako (910-966) was High Chief of the Obotrites from 954 to 966, succeeding Hermann Billung and preceding Mstivoj.
Biography[]
Nako was born in 910, and he and his Obotrite fellow tribespeople revolted against the Holy Roman Empire in 955. He was defeated by Otto the Great at the Battle of Recknitz, and his brother Stoignew was beheaded, while Nako and his people were converted to Catholicism. Nako then built a ringwall of fortresses at Mecklenburg, Starigard, Liubice, and Lenzen, and his sons Mstivoj and Mstidrag would succeed him.
