
Nairi Hunanyan (born 1965) was an Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) member who carried out the Armenian parliament shooting in 1999, killing 8 and wounding over 30.
Biography[]
Nairi Hunanyna was born in 1965 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union. Hunanyan studied at Yerevan State University and became a founder of the Alliance of Armenian Students, a national liberation movement formed by nationalist Armenian students. From 1994 to 1997, Hunanyan worked as an Armenian-language teacher in the Ukraine before returning to a free Armenia, but he would be expelled from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation for misconduct. In 1999, he led a group of armed men to attack the Armenian parliament, killing eight government officials (including Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan). Hunanyan was sentenced to eight life sentences for the attack.
