Nagano Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan located in central Honshu. Although the prefecture is large, much of it is uninhabitable due to the presence of mountain ranges, and the 1998 Winter Olympics were held in the prefecture's capital city of Nagano; this was the first Olympics to feature snowboarding. In 2011, Nagano had a population of 2,148,425 people.
