Nabil Sahraoui

Nabil Sahraoui (26 September 1966-20 June 2004), also known as Mustafa Abu Ibrahim, was the leader of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) from 2003 to 2004, succeeding Hassan Hattab and preceding Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud.

Biography[]

Nabil Sahraoui was born on 26 September 1966 in Batna, Algeria, and he joined the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC). In 2003 he deposed the GSPC's leader Hassan Hattab because of his openness to enter negotiations with the government of Algeria, and he pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda and the Taliban, transforming the GSPC into al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. On 20 June 2004 he was killed in the Kabyle region by security forces.
