Mustafa Ramadan Darwish (died September 2004), also known as Abu Muhammad al-Lubnani, was the Kurdish deputy leader of JTJ under Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. He was killed at the Battle of Abu Ghraib in 2004.
Biography[]
Mustafa Ramadan Darwish was born in Majdal Anjar in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon to a father whose family originated from Diyarbakir in Turkey and a Syrian mother from Aleppo. Darwish became an Islamist at a young age, memorizing the Quran and serving in the Mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan War. After the war, he returned home to Lebanon, but his radical activities forced him to flee to Denmark, where he grew out his beard, dressed like an Afghan mujahid, and kept his wife's niqab. There, he established contacts with the Mujahideen across Europe, and he joined a Turkmen chapter of Ansar al-Islam. He then returned home to Lebanon and was imprisoned for eight months due to his terrorist activities. Following the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, he travelled to Iraq and founded the Rawa Camp to train Iraqi insurgents. He became the chief military commander of the camp, and he became a commander of JTJ and the second-in-command of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. He helped to recruit jihadists and smuggle them into Iraq, and he took part in several battles against the Coalition forces. In September 2004, he was killed in action at the Battle of Abu Ghraib.
