Munster, known as an Mhumhain in Irish, is one of the provinces of Ireland, located in the southwest of the country. The region was home to the powerful House of O'Brien during the Middle Ages, and the famous Irish king Brian Boru was a famous King of Munster due to his opposition to the invading Vikings and his death at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. In addition, Irish politicians Daniel O'Connell and Michael Collins hailed from the region. In 2011, Munster had a population of 1,246,088 people.
