Biography[]
Mujtaba A. Mohammed was born in North Carolina to a Muslim family, and he worked as a public interest attorney (with interests in public defense and children's rights law) before becoming involved with Democratic politics. He was passionate about public education, tax cuts for middle-class families, the tax-free weekend, and equity, and he ran on a progressive platform, seeking to end cash bail, the school-to-prison pipeline, and implementing in-state tuition for undocumented students. In 2018, he ran for the North Carolina State Senate's 38th seat, defeating the conservative Democrat Joel Ford.
