Muhsin al-Barazi (1904-14 August 1949) was Prime Minister of Syria from 25 June to 14 August 1949, succeeding Husni al-Za'im and preceding Hashim al-Atassi.
Biography[]
Muhsin al-Barazi was born in 1904 in Hama, Ottoman Syria to a family of Kurds. He was a Syrian nationalist during the 1930s and 1940s, and he led the League of Nationalist Action in the independence struggle; he served as the closest aide of Shukri al-Quwatli. On 25 June 1949 he was made the new Prime Minister of Syria after Husni al-Za'im became President, and he was overthrown on 14 August 1949 by Hashim al-Atassi in a coup alongside Za'im. The two of them were executed by Sami al-Hinnawi and other officers loyal to the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP); Barazi's cousin would later avenge him by killing Hinnawi.
