Muhammad "Abu Maher" Imad Khalid Asheikh (died 2019) was head of the Palestinian Preventive Security during the 2010s. He was previously imprisoned by Israel for 17 years, but, on his release, he became an official of the legitimate Palestinian Authority and befriended his former imprisoner, Shin Bet operative Gabi Ayub. In 2015, Ayub persuaded Maher to help him hunt down the Hamas terrorist mastermind Taufiq Hammed. By 2018, Abu Maher's own son Maher had joined Abu Seif al-Makdasi's student terror cell, and Abu Maher discovered his son's involvement after realizing that Maher had planted a listening device in his ashtray. Abu Maher disowned his son before he was taken to a Jordanian prison to serve his sentence. In 2019, Abu Maher was assassinated by Hamas Nukhba Force commandos while meeting with Gabi Ayub to sign a new cooperation agreement.
