The Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) was an Islamist political party in Algeria which was founded in 1990 by Mahfoud Nahnah as an affiliate of the international Muslim Brotherhood. It was initially a minor party, with the powerful FIS attracting several MSP supporters on the eve of the Algerian Civil War. During the civil war, the Movement of Society for Peace refused to join the insurgency against the government, instead urging for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and cooperation with the state. The party thus remained a legal party under the military regime, and many of its members were assassinated by extremist militants during the war. In the 2007 parliamentary elections, the MSP became the third-largest party in the country with 52 MPs, but, as part of the Green Algeria Alliance, it was destroyed in the 2012 legislative election and went on to boycott the 2014 presidential election.
