The Mountain Cloud Boys was a Chinese triad criminal organization, founded in Hong Kong in the 1980s and based in San Francisco during the 1990s. Led by Wu Zi Mu, the organization was the most prominent of the San Francisco Triads, and it was heavily involved in joint operations with the Red Gecko Tong (to which it answered) and the Blood Feather Triad. In 1992, Wu Zi Mu allied his triad with Grove Street Families gangster Carl Johnson as the Mountain Cloud Boys went to war with San Francisco's Vietnamese gangs, chief among them the Da Nang Boys. The Da Nang Boys massacred the Blood Feather Triad, but Johnson helped the Triads in distracting the Vietnamese gangsters as the Triad boss Ran Fa Li escaped from Wu Zi Mu's betting shop, enabling the Triads to launch a counterattack. Johnson and the Triads jointly attacked a cargo ship used by the Da Nang Boys as a floating headquarters, freeing the ship's human trafficking victims and killing the Da Nang Boys' leader Thanh Hu Viet. While the Da Nang Boys were greatly weakened and were unable to resume their attacks on Chinatown, they continued to operate along the docks while the Mountain Cloud Boys asserted full control over their community.
