Motokuni Sakai (born 1509) was the daimyo of the Sakai clan of Japan after the death of his father Hirochika Sakai in 1548.
Biography[]
Motokuni Sakai was the son of the Echizen Province daimyo Hirochika Sakai, and he succeeded his father in 1548 upon his death. Motokuni was feeble and his people destitute, but he was a dependable and ambitious man who was a loyal ally to the Takeda clan. Motokuni Sakai became a strong warlord through expansion aided by Shingen Takeda, and the Sakai clan took over much of the Ikko-Ikki warrior monks' lands.
Motokuni offered unlimited military access to the Takeda armies, and the armies of Shingen proceeded to win several victories against the monks with the aid of their loyal Sakai allies.
