
Mortada Qurbani was an Iranian IRGC Major-General during the Iran-Iraq War and the Persian Gulf crisis.
Biography[]
Mortada Qurbani was born in Iran, and he joined the IRGC following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Qurbani rose to command the Karbala Division during the ensuing Iran-Iraq War, leading it in Khuzestan and Kurdistan. By the 2010s, he had risen to the rank of Major-General. On 7 January 2020, he claimed responsibility for the IRGC attack on the United States' al-Asad Air Base in Iraq and threatened further attacks if the US retaliated, warning the US that Iran was on high alert and would destroy its bases and humiliate it.
