Morrison C. England Jr.

Morrison Cohen England Jr. (17 December 1954-) was Judge of the US District Court for the Eastern District of California from 2 August 2002, succeeding Lawrence K. Karlton.

Biography[]

Morrison Cohen England Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1954, and he became a lawyer in 1983 served in the US Army Reserve from 1988 to 2002. England served as a Sacramento municipal court judge from 1996 to 1997, a Sacramento Supreior Court judge from 1996 to 2002, and a district court judge from 2002, appointed by President George W. Bush. On 19 September 2019, he issued a preliminary injunction against a California law requiring President Donald Trump to release his tax returns in order to be on the ballot for the 2020 presidential election, and, on 1 October, he issued a written opinion claiming that the law was unconstitutional.
