The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was a secessionist militant group in the Philippines that sought to create an independent state of Bangsamoro for the Moros, and it was present in the Muslim regions of Mindanao, Sulu Archipelago, Palawan, and Basilan. It was founded back in 1978 in opposition to Ferdinand Marcos' dictatorship, fighting against the tough far-right regime. al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim led the insurgent group in a long guerrilla war against the government. In 2014, it agreed to a peace treaty with the government in exchange for autonomy for the Bangsamoro region, and it formed the United Bangsamoro Justice Party in May 2015 for representation. It gave up its armed struggle against the government, and it fought against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Islamic State.
