
Morelos is a state in south-central Mexico, with Cuernavaca serving as its capital. The state borders Mexico City to the north, Pueblo to the east, and Guerrero to the southwest; it is the second-smallest Mexican state after Tlaxcala. In 1869, President Benito Juarez had Morelos removed from the State of Mexico and renamed after the Mexican War of Independence hero Jose Maria Morelos. In 2015, Morelos had a population of 1,903,811 people.
