Admiral Morcar (born 1148)

Morcar of Jerusalem (born 1148) was an admiral of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

Biography[]

Morcar of Jerusalem was born in 1148 in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and became an admiral of the Jerusalemite Navy. Morcar commanded one of the two fleets of Jerusalem, with the northern fleet under Admiral Jacob being sent to conquer Cyprus from the Greek rebels. Morcar was sent with a Jerusalemite fleet to blockade the coast of Egypt, ruled by the hostile Ayyubid Caliphate, during the Third Crusade in 1190. His blockade assisted in the capture of Dumyat by the crusaders, and Morcar proceeded to blockade the harbor of Alexandria. His navy was also able to defeat Egyptian squadrons off the coast of Egypt, destroying the fleets of Saladin.
