The Monument to the Great Fire of London, more commonly known simply as The Monument, is a monumental Doric column situated near the northern end of London Bridge in the City of London, Middlesex, England. It was built from 1671 to 1677 as a memorial to the Great Fire of London of 1666, and it originally contained words blaming Catholics for starting the fire; these words were chiseled out following Catholic emancipation in 1830.
