Moluntha (1692-November 1786) was a chief of the Shawnee tribe.
Biography[]
Moluntha was born in 1692, and he became a chief of Shawnee after the death of Cornstalk in 1778. Moluntha assisted Great Britain in the siege of Boonesborough that year, hoping for revenge for Cornstalk's murder. In 1786, he signed the Treaty of Fort Finney with George Rogers Clark to prevent another war from breaking out, and he decided to surrender to the United States in 1786 before Logan's Raid. An angry militiaman that believed Moluntha was present at the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782 killed him with an axe, betraying his commander's orders to spare any Native Americans that surrendered.
