Molokans are a sect of Spiritual Christians from Russia, founded in the late 1700s by Semyon Uklein. They are known for their pacifism, not eating pork, not eating shellfish, not consuming alcohol, and not using icons in worship. They were called Molokans, or "milk-drinkers" by the Russian Orthodox clergy for not participating in the fasts. They have been compared by some people to the Quakers.
In the 1800s, they were exiled into the Caucasus with other Spiritual Christian groups such as the Doukhobors and the Subbotniks. In the early 1900s, some Molokans immigrated to the United States, mostly to California to escape religious persecution and conscription. There are still small communities today living in parts of the Caucasus, Siberia, Ukraine, and the United States.
