Mohsen Nourbakhsh

Mohsen Nourbakhsh (18 May 1948-23 March 2003) was Minister of the Economy and Financial Affairs of Iran from 1989 to 1993, succeeding Mohammad-Javad Irvani and preceding Morteza Mohammadkhan.

Biography[]

Mohsen Nourbakhsh was born in Isfahan, Iran on 18 May 1948, and he studied economics at the University of Tehran before earning an econometrics degree from the University of California at Davis in the United States. Nourbakhsh became Deputy Finance Minister of Iran in 1979 in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution, serving in that role until 1981. In 1988, he was elected to the Majlis as the representative from Tehran, and he served as Minister of the Economy under Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, he was forced to resign, and he served as the head of the Central Bank from 1994 until his 2003 death. Nourbakhsh was one of the founders of the liberal Executives of Construction Party before his death.
