Mohammed Hasan Khalil al-Hakim (1961-31 October 2008), also known as Abu Jihad al-Masri or Muhammad Khalik Hasan al-Hukaymah, was the Propaganda Chief and Chief of External Operations of Al-Qaeda who operated from Iran.
Biography[]
Mohammed Hasan Khalil al-Hakim was born in Aswan, Egypt, in 1961. al-Hakim was arrested in 1981 following the assassination of President Anwar Sadat after joining al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, an Egyptian terrorist group. In August 2006 he was introduced in an Al-Qaeda video by Ayman al-Zawahiri, where he announced the merger between al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya and Al-Qaeda, forming a larger group.
Writing a series of books on American intelligence and other Western cultures, al-Hakim became the new Propaganda Chief of Al-Qaeda. He was also the Chief of External Operations, and operated out of Iran. Because of his high position in al-Qaeda, he became a target of the Americans and Pakistan.
Death[]
Al-Hakim was killed on 31 October 2008 when the CIA launched a drone strike on his car in North Waziristan.
