
Mohammad Abbasi (28 February 1958-) was the Iranian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports from 3 August 2011 to 17 August 2013, succeeding Ali Saeedlou and preceding Mahmoud Goudarzi.
Biography[]
Mohammad Abbasi was born on 28 February 1958 in Gorgan, Golestan Province, Iran to a Shia Muslim family. He became a teacher of the Azad University of Gorgan in 1986, serving as its president from 1996 to 2004 before becoming a member of parliament. He became acting Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports when President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's candidate for the office was rejected, and Iran's athletics flourished under Abbasi, winning 4 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.
