The Moderate Party is a liberal-conservative political party in Sweden that was founded on 17 October 1904. The party's original name was the General Electoral League (Almänna Valmansförbundet). The party was founded by conservatives in the Swedish parliament, and it became the leading opposition party to the Swedish Social Democratic Party, becoming one of two major parties in the country. In 1991, the Moderates became the head of government for the first time under Carl Bildt (the descendant of a long line of politicians), but the party spent 12 years as opposition leaders after losing the 1994 election, owing to rising unemployment and other economic difficulties. The party again held power from 2010 to 2014 with a center-right coalition, and it adopted more centrist views under Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, supporting reduced taxation and economic liberalism.
On 21 June 2021, all 70 Moderate MPs voted to oust Stefan Löfven in the no-confidence vote.
