Miriam (1583 BC-1452 BC) was the daughter of Amram and Jochebed and the older sister of Aaron and Moses.
Biography[]
Miriam was the daughter of Amram and Jochebed and the sister of Aaron and Moses, and, upon Moses' birth in 1571 BC, Jochebed entrusted Miriam with ensuring that Moses was sent down the Nile to find new parents after the Pharaoh ordered the massacre of the Hebrew newborns. Miriam gave Moses to the Egyptian princess Bithiah, who took Moses in as her own son, and Miriam returned to her mother. She would meet Moses several years later when Moses was shown to his birth mother's home, and she and her brother accompanied Moses and the other Israelites on the Exodus to the Promised Land from 1491 to 1451 BC. God gave Miriam leprosy for a week when she objected to his marriage to a Cushite and to his claimed ability to speak to God, but she was cleansed and returned to camp. She died near Kadesh in 1452 BC.
