Minoru Daidoji (died December 2016) was a Japanese LDP politician and former Imperial Japanese Navy admiral who was nicknamed "the Fixer" for leading the powerful Daidoji Faction behind the scenes of Japanese politics.
Biography[]
Minoru Daidoji served in the Imperial Japanese Navy, rising to the rank of Admiral and becoming a distinguished war hero during World War II. Towards the final days of the war, he was among the hardline militarist members of the Japanese armed forces who refused to accept the unconditional surrender demanded by the American government, and he embezzled massive amounts of military funds to finance the construction of the world's most powerful battleship, the Yamato Mark II. Following the end of the war, Iwami Shipbuilding was forced to hide the ship in an underwater drydock in Hiroshima Prefecture, leading to the ship being nicknamed the "Secret of Onomichi".
After the Allied occupation of Japan came to an end in 1952, Daidoji entered politics with the LDP, becoming the leader of the powerful Daidoji Faction, which manipulated Japanese politics from behind the scenes. Daidoji was nicknamed "the Fixer" for his political connections, and he was known to fix scandals and problems behind the scenes, while being blamed for the 1973 oil crisis and the collapse of the Japanese bubble economy. In 1975, he asked Heizo Iwami to destroy the "Secret of Onomichi," but Iwami instead decided to hide the battleship and blackmail Daidoji into giving his company privileged military contracts and political favors.
In 2016, Kazuma Kiryu and his friends from the Hirose-gumi uncovered the secret of Onomichi with the help of Saio Triad leader Big Lo, revealing it to the country. the dying Daidoji, infuriated by Heizo Iwami's failure to keep his end of the bargain, authorized his treacherous son Tsuneo Iwami to kill his father and inherit the same favors and contracts he had given to his father. Tsuneo would cover up Daidoji's role in the battleship's construction and blame it entirely on the late Chairman Iwami, while he would also murder Kiryu in retaliation for the secret's revelation. Tsuneo failed to kill Kiryu, and Daidoji succumbed to his illness soon after.
