Minnesota is a state located in the Midwest region of the United States, admitted in 1858 as the 32nd state. Its name means "clear blue water" in Dakota, and it is known as "the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes" due to its large number of lakes; its capital of Saint Paul and its largest city of Minneapolis are known as the "Twin Cities" for being so close. The rest of the state consists of prairies, and the North Woods are used for mining, forestry, and recreation. Currently, the state is a center of German, Dutch and Scandinavian culture due to the large Northern European population, and the state is among the wealthiest states; however, less than 50% of students graduate from high school. In 2015, the state had a population of 5,489,594 people.
