The Minangkabau people is an ethnic group in West Sumatra, Indonesia, with a yin-and-yang-style system of hierarchy; men are in charge of religious and political affairs, while women are in charge of property and land. 9,000,000 Minangkabau people live in Sumatra and in Malaysia, with their only significant religion being Sunni Islam; however, they usually follow a syncretistic belief that blends in Islam with Hinduism and Buddhism.
