Milos Vykukal (1960-) was a Czech ANO 2011 politician who served as President of the Czech Republic from 24 April 2017.

Biography[]

Milos Vykukal was born in Ostrava, Moravia, Czechoslovakia in 1960. He worked as an engineer during the communist era and founded one of the country's largest engineering firms, "Pionýr". Vykukal was a supporter of the CSSD before growing disenchanted with its perceived corruption, and he joined the ANO 2011 party on its foundation.

In 2017, Vykukal was selected as ANO 2011's presidential nominee. In the April 2017 legislative election, ANO placed in first with 24.46% of the vote and 9/36 Chamber of Deputies seats, followed by the ODS with 14.54% and 5/36 seats, the Czech Pirate Party with 13.99% and 5/36 seats, the CSSD with 13.47% and 5/36 seats, Freedom and Direct Democracy with 11.18% and 4/36 seats, the KSCM with 7.36% and 3/36 seats, TOP 09 with 6.46% and 3/36 seats, KDU-CSL with 6.34% of the vote and 2/36 seats, and Mayors and Independents with 2.2% and no seats. On 24 April 2017, Vykukal won the presidential election with 55.4% of the vote, defeating ODS candidate Miloslav Vitek with his 44.6%.

Vykukal inherited an economy with a budget of 178 million Kč with a weekly increase of 8 million Kč. Under Vykukal, the Chamber of Deputies voted 30-0 to create public housing, 32-0 to create retirement homes, 31-0 to approve agriculture research, 19-8 to abolish the income tax, 23-6 to legalize prostitution, and 23-4 to create a bus transport service.

On 9 July 2018, new elections were held. ANO 2011 fell to 23.22% (-1.24%) and 8/36 seats (-1 seat), the CSSD rose to 18.59% (+5.12%) and 7/36 seats (+2 seats), the ODS rose to 15.29% (+.75%) and 6/36 seats (+1 seat), the Pirates fell to 13.52% (-.47%) and 5/36 seats, the SPD fell to 10.51% (-.67%) and 4/36 seats, the KSCM fell to 6.56% (-.8%) and 2/36 seats (-1 seat), the KDU-CSL rose to 6.51% (+.17%) and 2/36 seats, TOP 09 fell to 5.04% (-1.42%) and 2/36 seats (-1 seat), and STAN fell to .05% and no seats. Vykukal won re-election by a margin of 52.3% to 47.7%, defeating CSSD leader Jirina Souckova.
