Militarism is the belief that a country should have a strong military that should be used aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Militarism was one of the leading causes of World War I and World War II, tying in closely with nationalism and expansionism. Blind faith in leaders allowed for large countries to be led into deadly wars fueled by extreme patriotism, and the belief in militarism has been famously seen in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Japan, the United States, and First French Empire.
