
Miles Poindexter (22 April 1868 – 21 September 1946) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-WA 3) from 4 March 1909 to 3 March 1911, preceding William La Follette, and a US Senator from 4 March 1911 to 3 March 1923, succeeding Samuel H. Piles and preceding Clarence Dill.
Biography[]
Miles Poindexter was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1868, and he was raised in Virginia before moving to Walla Walla, Washington in 1891 to open his law practice. He served as prosecuting attorney in Walla Walla, and then moved to Spokane, where he served as an assistant prosecuting attorney and a superior court judge. Poindexter served in the US House of Representatives from 1909 to 1911 and in the US Senate from 1911 to 1923, and he joined the Bull Moose Party in 1913 before rejoining the Republican Party in 1915. From 1923 to 1928, he served as ambassador to Peru, and he died in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1946.
