Mikie Sherrill

Mikie Sherrill (19 January 1972-) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 11) from 3 January 2019 (succeeding Rodney Frelinghuysen) and Governor of New Jersey from 19 January 2026 (succeeding Phil Murphy).

Biography[]

Mikie Sherrill was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1972, and she served as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy, becoming one of the first female flight school graduates to be eligible for combat. She left the Navy in 2003, and she worked as a lawyer before becoming a federal prosecutor. In 2018, she ran for the US House of Representatives as the Democratic candidate for New Jersey's 11th district, facing Republican Jay Webber. She won with 57% of the vote. In 2025, she was elected Governor in a landslide election, prioritizing the lowering of property costs through school consolidation.
