Miguel de Los Monteros (23 July 1984-July 2019) was a Bolivian soldier who served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Bolivian Army's La Unidad special forces unit. He was killed in an American raid on MOB Condor during Operation Silent Spade in 2019.
Biography[]
Miguel de Los Monteros was born in Rancho Savala, Bolivia in July 1984, the son of a policeman. He grew up in an extremely poor family and joined La Unidad to escape his family's struggles, and his ambition led him to rise to a highly influential position as a lieutenant-colonel. Nicknamed "El Comandante," he struck a deal with the Santa Blanca Cartel after the two factions agreed to a ceasefire in 2017, and he sold the services of his men to the cartel for a hefty price. At the same time, he used brutal methods, including scalping, to terrorize the people of Media Luna - once a Kataris 26 stronghold - into accepting Unidad rule.
In 2019, the United States launched Operation Kingslayer with the objective of dismantling and destroying Santa Blanca. As part of this operation, "El Comandante" was targeted by the Americans. A team of Ghost Recon operatives infiltrated his main base at MOB Condor as part of Operation Silent Spade, and they used the opportunity to assassinate El Comandante as well. Major Anthony Perryman took a photo of his unmasked body and sent it to his CIA contact Karen Bowman, who identified the mysterious soldier as "Miguel de Los Monteros."
