Midlothian is an unincorporated area in Chesterfield County, Virginia. It was settled by Huguenot refugees from London in 1700 and named for the Midlothian Coal Mining Company in 1835, but the decline of coal mining in the 20th century depopulated the area. However, it experienced growth as the Richmond metropolitan area expanded, and it became a western suburb of the city. In 2010, Midlothian had a population of 58,880 people.
