Midas of Argos (died 431 BC) was an Argive banker and a leader of the Cult of Kosmos during the Peloponnesian War. He was assassinated by the Spartan mercenary Kassandra in 431 BC.
Biography[]
Midas of Argos was known as a wealthy, if ruthless, banker from Argos, and he believed that democracy was useless when drachmae ruled the Greek world. He became a member of the Cult of Kosmos, and he was tasked with the destruction of historic sites after the Cult looted their treasures, erasing the sites from history.
In 431 BC, the mercenary Kassandra discovered Midas' identity and set out to assassinate him. She found him walking outside of his bank, and she proceeded to pursue him in a rooftop and alleyway chase. Ultimately, she cornered him near the city's walls and succeeded in slaying him, although she had to cut down several citizens who attempted to intervene. Midas was the second Cultist to fall to Kassandra's blade.
