The Michigan Militia is a right-wing paramilitary group in Michigan that was founded in 1994 by Norman Olson in response to perceived encroachments by the federal government on the rights of citizens. The Michigan Militia's early meetings were attended by future far-right terrorists Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols before they carried out the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and the Michigan Militia came to have a strength of 10,000 members at its peak; this membership declined to several hundred by 2010. Olson was forced out of the group in response to the Oklahoma City bombing, and his successor Lynn Van Huizen pursued a more moderate course; Olson formed the radical Northern Michigan Regional Militia.
