Michael Leib (8 January 1760 – 8 December 1822) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 2nd district from 4 March 1799 to 3 March 1803 (succeeding Blair McClenachan and preceding Robert Brown) and from the 1st district from 4 March 1803 to 14 February 1806 (preceding John Porter), and a US Senator from 9 January 1809 to 14 February 1814 (succeeding Samuel Maclay and preceding Jonathan Roberts). He was a Democratic-Republican.
Biography[]
Michael Leib was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1760, and he studied and practiced medicine, becoming a surgeon in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. From 1795 to 1798, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and he then served in the US House of Representatives from 1799 to 1806 and in the US Senate from 1809 to 1814, when he resigned to become postmaster of Philadelphia. He died in 1822.
