Michael Grimm (7 February 1970-) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NY 13) from 3 January 2011 to 3 January 2013 (succeeding Michael McMahon and preceding Charles Rangel) and from NY 11 from 3 January 2013 to 3 January 2015 (succeeding Yvette Clarke and preceding Dan Donovan).
Biography[]
Michael Grimm was born in Queens, New York City, New York in 1970. He entered the US Marine Corps in 1989, and he served in the Gulf War, reaching the rank of Corporal. In 1991, he became an FBI clerk, and he later graduated from Quantico as a special agent. As an undercover agent, he infiltrated the Gambino crime family and spied on John Gotti's brother John Gotti, and he also uncovered white-collar criminals on Wall Street. He left the FBI in 2006, the same year that he opened a small health food restaurant in Manhattan. Grimm worked in business and finance before being elected to the US House of Representatives in 2011. He defeated Michael Allegretti in the Republican primary, and he won the backing of the Tea Party. Grimm won the election, and he was re-elected in 2012 for the redrawn 11th district. In 2014, he won re-election once more. Grimm supported the extension of George W. Bush's tax cuts, gun rights, anti-abortion legislation, the repeal of Obamacare, immigration reform, aid to Israel, non-interventionism in Syria, and decreased flood insurance premiums. In April 2014, he became the first Republican to stop denying the science that humans caused climate change. On 5 January 2015, he resigned from the US Congress after pleading guilty to felony tax evasion, and he served seven months in prison.
